The reason I became a teacher was to try and create love and interest in a subject like Mathematics in students. I saw learners were afraid of Math mostly, I observed, because they did not understand it and were not guided to see the beauty around them connected to it. I have strived to teach the magic of Math, not just to students but to teachers too. My interest in teaching English is comparatively new, just about 10 years, and it started with tutoring students at home. A chance opportunity to understand and teach students preparing for IELTS, got me involved in this area.
I have completed my BA(HONS) in Mathematics from Delhi University, Bachelor in Education (English and Mathematics) from Jamia Milia Islamia and MBA from ICFAI Hyderabad. I am currently enrolled in TESOL (Teaching of English to Students of Other Languages) at the American TESOL Institute.
My teaching of Math and English has been polished by the various teaching workshops I have attended. Activity-based teaching using various strategies has enriched my teaching experience. I have attended workshops conducted by Educomp, CBSE, Mr Jose Paul, to name a few.
While teaching tricky topics, I have used practical and hands-on activities to drill in concepts. Using various visual, auditory and kinesthetic aids has helped me to reach out to all kinds of learners. Group learning has been one of my favourite teaching techniques, especially for shy and reserved children. I encourage students, older ones, to find more than one way to solve problems. This ensures clarity of the topic. In most topics, parallels can be drawn to real life and I use these to expand the thinking with assignments and projects.
